Jason Nelson currently serves as the “Senior Vice President of Horticulture” at Cresco Labs and has over 8 years experience in the modern regulated cannabis industry on top of a BS/MS in Agronomy and Horticulture from Kansas State University. After completion of a BS in Agronomy, Jason joined the burgeoning Medical Cannabis Industry in California beginning in 2002.
Having experienced regulated cannabis cultivation in it’s infancy, Jason opted to return to academia for additional training in scaled horticultural crop production and completed an MS Degree in Horticulture with the intent of entering the increasingly regulated cannabis industry in Denver. Working for four years with one of the largest retailers and cultivators in Denver, TGS, Jason was able to experience the medical to recreational market transition first hand, alongside operating a 250,000ft2 cultivation site and cannabis R&D operation. Joining Cresco Labs in early 2016, Jason was tasked with overseeing all cultivation and lab extraction operations as the Senior Vice President of Production with direct responsibility over the bulk of revenue generating operations. As Cresco began to pursue other state Cannabis licenses outside of Illinois, Jason was tasked with initiating and overseeing all production expansion culminating in successful operations in 11 states at the end of 2019 going into 2020. Beginning early 2020, Jason transitioned focus and applied his academic and experiential skillset into a majority role contribution to the SEED and Community Integration initiatives with maintaining oversight of the Cannabis R&D Department for Cresco Labs.
